“I tell you the truth, if your faith is as big as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. All things will be possible for you.” Matthew 17:20-21 (NCV)

Miracles are part of the wonderful mystery of God to me. So many today want to offer some kind of formula to conjure up a miracle or some special prayer that forces God to act on our behalf and pull off a miracle when and where and how we demand. If that were true then who would be God? It’s so refreshing and relaxing when you can just let God be God. I may not always understand God’s ways, but I never have to doubt His love. God is love. Because He loves me, I can trust Him and simply ask for the miracle I need in my life. Philippians 4:6-7 says, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

It’s interesting that the Bible says, “requests” not “demands”. When we present our requests to God, we can have confidence in His love for us to respond. James 4:2 tells us “We have not because we ask not.” Blind Bartimaeus in Mark 10:46-52 was certainly not shy in asking for the miracle he needed most. Risking embarrassment and harassment from the crowds, he cried out even louder, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” There was no hesitation when Jesus asked him, “What do you want Me to do for you?” Seizing the moment, Bartimaeus said, “Rabbi, I want to see!”

What is it you need most? Have you asked the Source of miracles for it? God always begins with the miracle we need most to bring us to what we really need most, a deeper relationship with Him. And it’s not a matter of how big our faith is. Jesus said we only needed muster seed-sized faith because faith is only as effective as the object you put your faith in. If you’ll put your little bit of faith in a great big God, He will astonish you with what He can do just as He did Bartimaeus!

God knows what we need but longs for us to enter a personal relationship with Him where we communicate our needs to Him. As He supplies those needs, we witness miracle after miracle of His grace and love.
