“Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.”
Romans 8:1-2 (NIV)

Many Bible scholars refer to the eighth chapter of Romans as the greatest chapter in the Bible. They call it “The Great Eight!” It begins with a declaration of freedom for every Christ follower. This is a truth every believer needs to understand and receive by faith if we are to fully realize our new identity in Christ. Even when you feel guilty and condemned for your sins, the Bible says you are no longer under condemnation because of who you are in Christ! This doesn’t mean you or I are perfect and without sin and won’t sin again. In fact, when we do mess up, God will convict us because He loves us, not to condemn us. So, what do you do when you still feel condemned?

Recognize where it is coming from - condemnation is an attack of the enemy. The Bible calls Satan, the accuser of the saints. He stands before God accusing us before Him for the sins we’ve committed. And the truth is, we are guilty. But the great news of the Gospel is that Jesus paid the debt for our sins. He took the condemnation on the cross when He died in our place. Through His death we are reconciled to God by faith and by His resurrection life we are saved, daily delivered from sins dominion so we may live in the victory wherewith Christ has set us free!  Is it any wonder why theologians call Romans eight, The Great Eight!

This means that because of who you are in Christ, you no longer have to accept the accusations of the enemy and live with self-condemnation. Praise God! You are forgiven! You have a new identity in Christ! You have been made right with God and are no longer condemned!  I love the way one worship leader expressed it years ago. “When the devil reminds you of your past to condemn you, just remind him of his future!”

Then lean into this promise of God affirming who you are in Christ, “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.” Romans 8:1-2 (NIV) Accept this truth, child of God, and thank God that you are free!

Another important part of your daily devotional is spending time with God in prayer. The Woodlands Church Prayer Board lists prayer requests submitted by our members and provides a way to send them some encouragement by using a button on the page to let them know that you prayed for them. Whether you use the Prayer Board, or pray from your heart, the goal is to build the habit of incorporating prayer into your quiet time.

Need prayer yourself? Let us know by submitting a prayer request on the Woodlands Church Prayer Board.
