When God Runs!
“For because He Himself [in His humanity] has suffered in being tempted (tested and tried), He is able [immediately] to run to the cry of (assist, relieve) those who are being tempted and tested and tried [and who therefore are being exposed to suffering].”
Hebrews 2:18 (AMP)
Rapid Response Teams save lives! They are trained to meet immediate physical needs in a life-threatening crisis, and the sooner they can get there, the better. The writer of Hebrews said this was the promise of God for those who cry out to Him whether they are being tempted, tested, or suffering! In fact, this passage tells us that because Jesus suffered, He runs to those who cry out to Him! Talk about a rapid response! This is one of the few times in Scripture where we see God run! In Luke 15, Jesus tells of another time God ran in the story of the Prodigal Son, who returned home after suffering the consequences of his own sin and rebellion. Verse 20 (NLT) says, “And while he was still a long way off, his father saw him coming. Filled with love and compassion, he ran to his son, embraced him, and kissed him.”
What an amazing response from a loving Father! Whether you have run away from God or are suffering a trial that is overwhelming you or temptations beyond your ability to withstand, Jesus offers a rapid response when you cry out to Him! The Psalmist said, “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” Psalm 46:1 (NIV)
The reason God’s response is so rapid is because He is ever-present! God is closer to you than you are to your own self! He promises never to leave you or forsake you! It doesn’t matter if the trouble was caused by others or something you have done to yourself; Jesus promises to run to those who cry out to Him! You can trust Christ to help you survive suffering and overcome temptations because He experienced both as well. Hebrews 4:15 says that Jesus empathizes with our weaknesses. Another translation says He is touched with the feeling of our infirmities. Are you hurting today? Go to Jesus for comfort, strength, and counsel. He understands your needs and is able to help as soon as you call.
