“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.”
Isaiah 43:2 (NIV)

Today’s promise in Isaiah 43:2 is one of our favorites. I love the way the Message paraphrases that verse. It says, “When you're in over your head, I'll be there with you. When you're in rough waters, you will not go down. When you're between a rock and a hard place, it won't be a dead end— Because I am GOD, your personal God, … your Savior….” Isaiah 43:2-3 (MSG)

You only have to turn on the news to know that we live in confusing times. For most of us, the confusion isn't just out in the world - it's in our own lives.  But God offers divine direction that gives us hope and clarity even when we’re sailing through uncharted waters.  In fact, I’ve discovered God uses confusing times and the storms of life to show us how we can trust in Him. When you find yourself there, you are not alone.  God is with you.  His Word offers us His promise that when we’re in over our heads, He says, “I’ll be there with you.  When you’re in rough waters, God promises, you will not go down! When you’re between a rock and a hard place, you can take courage – it won’t be a dead end!”  How can we be so sure?  “Because I am God, your personal God, your Savior!” That’s the promise of God in Isaiah 43:2-3.

Each one of God’s promises become an anchor for our soul that keeps us firm and secure and leads us through the storms of life.  More than just a moral compass, God’s Word offers us divine direction in confusing times!  But we must mix the truth of those promises with faith in the One who made them!

To claim God’s promises, we must pray.  God always keeps His word!  Reread today’s promise again, slowly and prayerfully.  Allow God to speak into your own confusion with clarity and direction.  You may not know exactly how everything will work out, but you will experience His peace that passes all understanding.  God never called us to take the lead.  He called us to follow Him.  As your trust deepens in how much God loves you and cares for you, a calm will quiet your troubled heart with the assurance that your Heavenly Father is watching over you.

Another important part of your daily devotional is spending time with God in prayer. The Woodlands Church Prayer Board lists prayer requests submitted by our members and provides a way to send them some encouragement by using a button on the page to let them know that you prayed for them. Whether you use the Prayer Board, or pray from your heart, the goal is to build the habit of incorporating prayer into your quiet time.

Need prayer yourself? Let us know by submitting a prayer request on the Woodlands Church Prayer Board.
