How to Walk in the Will of God

“In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.”
Proverbs 3:6 (NKJV)

Nothing gives you more security than knowing that you are in the will of God, that God is directing your path, and that He is leading you.  Do you have that confidence?  Are you seeking His will and direction in your life?

The New Living Translation puts Proverbs 3:6 like this: Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take.”

The New International Version says, “… He will make your paths straight.”

The Amplified Bible says God will make your path plain.

The Message adds, “He will keep you on track.”

Another version says, “He will clear the road for you to follow.” (CEV)

And Today’s English Version says, “He will show you the right way.”

What a promise to claim!  God desires for us to know His will.  He wants us to walk in His will. How do we do that? The invitation of Jesus is simple and clear.  “Follow Me…” When we follow Christ, we are walking in the will of God!

Here’s some good news - I don’t have to determine the direction. He knows the path.  I just need to stay in step with Jesus day by day.  Are you following Jesus?  How do you know?  Proverbs gives us the answer.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.  Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take.”  Proverbs 3:5-6 (NLT)

Instead of concentrating so much on what to do, press into a more intimate and personal relationship with Christ.  Rest in Him with the simplicity of a child who rests in the confident direction, provision, and counsel of a loving parent. The wisdom of Proverbs shows us how in three practical steps:

  1. “Trust in the Lord with all our heart.”

  2. “Do not depend on your own understanding.”

  3. “Seek His will in all you do.”

Scripture is full of examples of those who did and experienced the favor of God’s Divine Direction!
