Attitude Check

“Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus.”

Philippians 2:5 (NIV)

 When is the last time you had an attitude check? Yesterday, we saw how Jesus dealt with the mundane, all the years spent in obscurity when His work seemed so useless, and His strength was spent for what seemed to be of no purpose. He put His trust in His Father for His reward.  If you were to continue reading in Isaiah 49 from yesterday’s key passage, you would see the outcome of an attitude of obedience even in the mundane.  Isaiah 49:5-6 (NLT) says, “And now the Lord speaks— the one who formed Me in My mother’s womb to be His servant, who commissioned Me to bring Israel back to Him. The Lord has honored Me, and My God has given Me strength. He says, ‘You will do more than restore the people of Israel to Me. I will make You a light to the Gentiles, and You will bring My salvation to the ends of the earth.’”  Was it worth it?  Ask any sinner who has been forgiven.  Ask any saint who has experienced grace and enjoys a right relationship with God because of Jesus.  

In Philippians we are told to have the same attitude as that of Christ.  Jesus was always obedient to the Father, even in the mundane work that seemed so useless, even when He had to withhold His privileges as Deity and take upon Himself the limitations of humanity.  How do you handle the mundane moments of life?  We love the grandiose. We live for the moments of triumph and victory.  But the truth is, we often miss the miracle in the mundane.  Had Jesus not been faithful in the mundane moments of life He would never have achieved the glory of being exalted to the place of highest honor.  Be faithful in the mundane.  Have the attitude of Christ Jesus.  Leave the results to God. “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” Colossians 3:23-24 (NIV)
