Understanding the Miracles of Jesus

Watch Pastor Kerry’s Devo

“Jesus replied, ‘I tell you the truth, you want to be with Me because I fed you, not because you understood the miraculous signs. But don’t be so concerned about perishable things like food. Spend your energy seeking the eternal life that the Son of Man can give you. For God has given Me the seal of His approval.’” John 6:26-27 (NLT)

Two of the most popular miracles of Jesus are recorded in John 6, the feeding of the 5,000 and when Jesus walked on water. Both illustrate His power over nature and His ability to meet every need in our lives. What if the boy had not offered Jesus his lunch? He would have missed the miracle of what God can do when we offer Him what we have, even if it’s just a little. Little is much when God is in it.

Then, when the storms of life come, where do you turn? Through the disciples’ own experience, they discovered the power of Jesus to not only provide every need but also to protect them in the storms of life.

With His popularity growing, many were questioning His identity and authority. As He revealed Himself to them, many of those who followed Him began to fall away. Reconsider why you follow Christ in your journey as you read this chapter today.

Read John 6 now and consider what you have that Jesus may use to do the miraculous. For Moses it was his staff. For the child in the story, it was his lunch. What about you? Are you willing to give all that you have and all that you are to the Lord Jesus? All there is of God is available to the boy, girl, man or woman who is available to all there is of God and that’s all that it takes. God is not looking for our ability but our availability. Just as the child in this story and the disciples in the storm, we can experience the power, provision, and protection of God when we turn to Jesus. When we experience the tests of life, verse six assures us with this promise. John said, “… He already knew what He was going to do.”

Whatever your need is, whatever you’re going through, God’s got this!
